We felt that the last scene of this episode was one of the most incredibly executed in the entire series. When you have a scene that is so powerfully executed, you must be thoughtful with the music. It has the romantic vibe with a touch of swagger that is needed to play along in a scene when Marnie steps out of her comfort zone, beyond the usual boundaries of her character and takes a risk in the moment. We narrowed our search to Bowie and were pursuing another artist, when a YouTube clip of Life On Mars performed live in concert by AURORA got on our radar. We were searching for a song to convey a Shoshanna’s deep sense of loss and isolation being alone in Japan.
David Bowie cover songs are a dime a dozen, but finding one that makes you want to literally cry is an awesome moment.
